The importance of sex....

.
.
Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Sunday June 7, 2009
.
.
Well, it looks the hot weather has been broken more or less. It was not very sunny when I headed out to the track yesterday, but it was not raining either. It was just pleasant and cooler that is all.
.
I want to get right to my topic of the day while the ideas are still fresh in my mind. Actually, I am still formulating the ideas as I write so I hope you will not hold that against me or that my prose will be of a second rate variety. But, friends, you have to consider just how important this whole business of sex really is. It is a paramount thing you know for without it there woud be no more human race. So, in the very first instance we have to understand that sex is something that is necessary for our survival. For all of us to produce offspring and to further our civilization along requires the sex act to be performed. Maybe that is why at base it is a generally accepted and liked phenomenon. We all need sex and it performs a necessary function for us.
.
But, there is a lot more to sex I think than just thinking about it as a vital survival issue. Sex is a pleasurable act in and of itself and that is why humans do it and think about it all of the time. I know that I think about it all of the time and if I am that means that most other people are thinking about it as well. So, why this preoccupation with sex I wonder? It is just a physiological function that needs to be satisfied from time to time and it is part of all of our lives. As a human animal sex is just part of our makeup and there is nothing we can do about it. We cannot turn the sex dial on or off, it just is and it is part of all of our lives. So, not only is sex a vital part of our existence, but it is part of our everyday and social life as well. All of us deal with our sexuality in our own way of course. Some of us flaunt it and do sexuality with the opposite sex, where others are not so socially active as it were and work with their sexuality in their own way. But, rest assured that no matter what your outward activities are, the idea and physical nature of sex is part of everybody's life. You simply cannot escape the influences of sexuality.
.
I have often wondered just who or what created sexuality actually. Now, some people believe in God so this makes life easy for them and helps them to understand the origin of sexuality. Christians, for example, feel that God created sex for reproduction and for pleasure as well. Well, that is all fine and dandy of course, but it does not really explain all of the problems that arise out of sex either. If God was such a magnificent planner then He might have spent more time devising a system that makes sex less of social issue and problem for any number of mankind. Did He just create sex and not even bother about the consequences of His creation? What kind of a planner is that when you cannot even anticipate all of the various problems associated with sex? Why create sex at all if it causes so many problems for so many people?
.
The non-believers in God of course have their own explanations for sex as you might expect. The most obvious is that nature created sex just like it created everything else. But, nature must be quite a wonderous thing when you think about it. It gave all of us animals the pleasure of sex, but it also gave us the same problems that God gave us. We all have to live with sex and its consequences. The thing that I find the most interesting about sex is the desire and pleasure that is associated with it. It is as if sex was made pleasurable so that you will use it. It was designed or it has developed into a very pleasurable thing. Now, since man at base is a rather selfish and pleasure seeking animal sex is right up his or her alley so to speak. So, did man create the pleasure aspects of sex or did nature find a way to create these attributes? Maybe this issue can be used in a philosophical discussion to explain the existence or non-existence of God. I think sex is a very key issue and one that could easily form part of a philosophical debate. Like, concerning the general nature of sex and of its purpose in life - who created this thing, God or nature?
.
The whole thing about sex is its pervasiveness and that is the thought that I want to leave you with. It pervades psychological and emotion man on a daily basis; it is constant and it is ubiquitous. We all do it and we all think about, some more than others of course or so others tell us. But, rest assured that it is a very compelling feature of man and explains much of his behaviour and many or all of his activities. Sex is almost like the driving force of mankind, sort of like the will that the philosophers talk about all of time. This just might be the importance and purpose of sex in itself; it is the thing that makes life purposeful; it is something that we all seek and we do that because of its utility and because of the pleasure associated with it. What else would you expect man to do with sex? He has discovered it, or it has discovered him and forever they go through life together as partners.
.
Well, those are my thoughts for the day. I think I will pick another song from 1967 for the song of the day since that is where I am at in the main part of my blog.
