Chilliwack again....

.

.

.

.

Good Morning Friends,

.

.

today is Tuesday June 30, 2009

.

.

Last day on the job and then we celebrate Canada Day tomorrow. I am a very proud Canadian you know and I think I landed up in the best country in the world. I know that there are some other great countries out there as well, but I just happen to live in Canada so I am kind of partial to this part of the world as you might expect.

.

The weather was decent enough yesterday and I made it out to Chilliwack again. I think that is about three times in three days work or something like that. That is about as far out east in the Fraser Valley that we go on my job in case you are interested. The weather has been really great for most of the month and I thought I would grab some strawberries on the way home. I stopped at this little stand on a road called Luckakuck Way, but the lady was all sold out of them. So, maybe next time who knows. I stopped in at McDonald's at the very same restaurant where I was last Friday. It is also situated on Luckakuck Way just a bit to the west. It was pleasant relaxing in the shade and mellowing out a bit before the longish drive back home towards the west.

.
Friends, here is what I mean about how things have changed in the music industry. Just no happiness for man at all, only uncertainty and dim prospects for the future of man. And, you wonder why I stick to my happy and innocent love songs of the early sixties?

The Golden Ears is a gift from the gods....

.
.
.
.
.
Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Monday June 29, 2009
.
.
Went for a spin yesterday in the later afternoon since it was so nice out - it was sunny and bright. I decided to go over the Golden Ears Bridge again. If you recall I told you about this bridge already. This is the one that connects the Port Kells area with Pitt Meadows on the other side of the Fraser River. I like driving over the fresh concrete and feeling the newness of the whole thing, everything is fresh and white. It is almost like buying a new car or something like that I suppose. I got my order in for my new transponder which I can use in my car and the work truck since they are rated the same. So, instead of paying over five dollars to cross the bridge one way the cost will be cut down to just over two dollars. That is a real saving as you can easily see. This new bridge will actually make me money so maybe that is why I like it so much. Not only will I will be able to get to the other side of the Fraser more quickly, but it will cost less gas and time in doing so. Plus, I will be able to do trips to Langley and Maple Ridge and still get the deliveries done on time. So, I will be able to make more money and save more money. Boy oh boy the courier gods really knew what they were doing when they built this bridge let me tell you.
.
Below are some more snaps of the bridge along with a picture of a McDonald's which is located in Port Kells. This is actually a new building for them as they moved from their old location in the same mall. This is one of the more friendlier restaurants in my opinion and I like going there. I go there all of the time on my job when I am in the territory and I went there yesterday as well. I had a coffee and a burger before I set out on my journey across the Fraser and the new bridge.
.

.

I decided to work for the next couple of days as it is the end of the month and it might be a little busier than usual. Actually, business has picked up a bit lately so that always boosts one's spirits a bit as you can imagine. In fact, I was driving steadily on the days that I worked last week. I think I racked up about 900 kilometres in just three days of work, so when you are putting on the K you are making dough. It is fun working on this job and the time goes quickly. I guess one of the reasons that I like the courier business so much is because it is very much like the carnival business. There is lots of travel giving me the feeling of escape and I get to meet a lot of interesting people. I also get the freedom to do what I want more or less, and to listen to music all day as well. I need this sense of freedom you know and the ability to work harder and to earn more too. The harder I work the more I make and that fits my personality to the tee.

.

Still lurking around the late sixties in the music department, so let's have a look. Remember, I told you that the happy songs of the early sixties are now history. Here is Elvis singing In the Ghetto in 1969. There are other more moody tunes from this time slot, but I guess what I am really saying is that the whole tenor of the times has changed.

Some thoughts on winning and dying..

.

.

.

.

Good Morning Friends,

.
today is Sunday June 28, 2009
.

.Just thought I would start off by doing a little bragging. My harness racing triactor system performed for me last night at the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey. I won two triactors at the session and one of them paid over eleven hundred dollars for a two dollar bet. If Karen was with me I could have bought here a lovely present, or a decent meal and some drinks anyhow. She wasn't so I am just going to have to pretend to buy her something. See link for this idea here: The Karen Lenihan Fan Club And, here is the link to the payoffs. See race number two for the top three finishers in the race. ( 4-2-5 )

.

.

I won half of the prize because I was betting a dollar, which is my standard bet. I was employing my main wagering system which is a $ 14 dollar bet. It is a combination of bets that that involves utilizing the top five picks in the race according to my handicapping methods. My fourth pick actually won the race. For example, let us say that I picked horses 1 -2-3-4-5 as my top picks out of a ten horse field in a race. This means that I will only make bets using these five horses and no others. Horses 6 through 10 are not considered to be worthy of betting according to my standards. In my particular win last night the number 4 horse actually ( and in fact was horse number 4 ) won the race, but the critical thing by my system is that my first and second rated horses came in second and third, respectively. And, they do in fact, have to be in the money. These are crucial horses in the system - my first and second selections. In the actual race last night the number four horse did win the race and numbers 2 and 5 came in second and third. ( my first and second horse according to my system ) The horses that won form part of my winning betting patterns. You can read about my harness racing triactor sytem in the main part of my blog. Just look at my Home Page and Blog Organization for the links. See link here: My Home Page .Scroll down to my Harness Racing Triactor System.

.

So, I am just starting to think that this win might qualify as one of my Bold Predictions that I made at the beginning of the year. See link to Bold Predictions here: Happy New Year 2009 I might not get another good triactor win like that for the remainder of the year, and then again I might. Therefore, all of my Bold Predictions are coming to pass. The big one yet to come is the one involving marriage. And, I am confirming to you dear reader that this event will take place, you just might be a little surprised as to its true nature when the event actually takes place.

.

Anyhow, I think it would be worthwhile to take a deep breath at this point and realize just how lucky all of us are to be alive. Remember, Michael Jackson is only a couple of days gone and is with us no more. And, that is the lesson of life now isn't it? That life is just a bunch of luck and numbers and that kind of thing. That is why I like winning at the racetrack, because in a way the racing gods have determined that my number has come up. For when I win I have no control over the situation just as in the nature of death. When your number comes up you will not even be expecting it. It will be a big surprise just like winning a good sized triactor at the racetrack. It will be unexpected and totally out of your control. So, I guess the message is to just keep plugging along and wait for the next big surprise in your life. Actually, there is no real sense in waiting for it because you do not know when it will happen. And, I think that is one of the best parts of life actually, that it can do what it wants and when it wants. It is all just luck and odds dear friends. Death is not a real mystery you know, for it is just an event that is couched in the context of the odds. The odds will always win just like the chances of you winning something decent at the racetrack. You don't actually have to have a system to win something big you know. Why? Because racing is just a bunch of numbers. If you just play numbers, for example, and the same numbers, I mean, you will eventually win something, and something of value eventually because that is the way luck is organized - it is just all odds and these operate within the context of time. That is why time is so important to the odds of winning and of dying as well. Time takes cares of these little details for us.

.

I am still hovering around the late sixties and early seventies in the music department. I will not be able to get untracked of course until I do a post over on the main part of my blog concerning the event of my life during that time period. And, well, I am just not there yet. ..I guess I was a pretty decent Neil Diamond fan, so here is one of his songs from 1969

The Death Train snaps, Michael Jackson and Elvis too....

.
.
.
.
Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Saturday June 27, 2009
.
.
Well, hopefully the weather will cheer up for the weekend. We have had a few days of rain now and the flowers and the grass seemed to have enjoyed the changes. Nobody that I talked to is complaining about the rain because everybody knows that we have been spoiled for a long time now with this great weather. And, it looks like the sun is going to return again for the weekend.
.
Below are the snaps that I took just after Michael Jackson passed on. My courier job took me to this train crossing right after he died. And, I had to wait for this lengthy train to pass. I am calling it Michael's death train and I think you can figure out why. I have not been stopped by a train at this location for a long time now, but this was a quite a timely stop as you can see. One of our customers is situated just beyond the tracks and it is always a big thrill for me to visit this particular customer because one of the girls who works here has the exact same last name as the girl of my dreams. So, hopefully you will be able to appreciate the significance of that as it affects me. Any person with the same last name as my favourite person in the whole wide world is a friend of mine let me assure you.
.
Anyway, take a look at the snaps of the train and see if you can see any Michael Jackson clues. Maybe there is something in the scribblings on the side of train that will let us know what Michael was thinking about at the time of his death. I know this might appear eerie for some readers, but it is really just a tribute to the pop star. I am not obsessed with death dear friends and it is only by accident that I had to stop for this train at this particular time. But, surely you will be able to appreciate the timing and significance of the event itself. Like I said earlier, I will most likely always think of Michael Jackson if I have to stop here in the future and wait for a train. Actually, another creepy thing happened yesterday on the job. On the post just before the last one where I highlighted a 1970 Michael Jackson song, I have the top song from 1969: Aquarius by the Fifth Dimension. I have not heard that song played for a long time on the radio, but I heard it yesterday, so just in case you are interested of course.
.
Today is another racing day friends so don't be afraid to pop into the track if you are in town. Post time is 1600 hrs for the racing in New Jersey. The song of the day is below the snaps and it is by Elvis Presley. And, by the way, I just thought of something else. There is a connection to the Presleys and the Jacksons now then isn't there? Why sure. Michael Jackson married a Presley girl. I almost forgot that you know.
.

.
Here is the song of the day for you. I was just checking things out in 1969 and I notice that the other King was still pumping out songs. Here is Elvis Presley singing Suspicious Mind in that year. Just as an aside here I remember working in the carnival business in the year that he died. It was in August 1977 that he died, during our annual fair here in Vancouver. My friend, who was an American from Seattle ran up and told me: " the king is dead. " That was August 16, 1977. Elvis died at 42 years of age. So, now you know what I was doing on that day.

Michael Jackson's death train....

.
.
.

.
Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Friday June 26, 2009
.
.
The roads were slick from the rain yesterday and I encountered more that one accident during the course of my working day. I was fairly busy and I was moving all day long. One of the few breaks that I got was having to stop and wait for a train to access the parking lot of one of our customers. Maybe the gods had me stop at that particular moment so as to contemplate the death of Michael Jackson. I had just heard on the radio that the pop star was dead.
.
I would not classify myself as a big Jackson fan, but I am sure there are lots of them out there. For me, the news was that another celebrity had passed on, and a relatively young personality at that since he was only fifty years old. But, he made his mark in the music world and elsewhere, and he was just, well, big news. All big celebrities, including singers are news when they die, and Michael Jackson is no exception.
.
Earlier in the day I was out in Chilliwack and I got the news that Farah Fawcett had passed on. I didn't know that another death would occur later on in the day. I just never gave the idea much thought actually. We all have to die I suppose and when you are a star of some kind, well your name gets mentioned in the media and that is one of the benefits of being some kind of a personality figure. I do not think that when Carl Baydala passes on that it will be front page news or hit the radio waves. But, then, one never knows does one? Perhaps I will have achieved some kind of fame or notoriety by the time my number is up.
.
Anyway, while I was waiting for this long train to pass I took a couple of snaps of the train as it inched by me. I have not downloaded these photos yet because I do not think there is anything of interest in them. But, there might be. So, maybe one day when I get around to loading them on to the computer I will take a close look at them and determine whether or not any of the images have some hidden message about these two celebrity deaths, Michael Jackson's in particular. When I stop for a train in the future at this location I will most likely remember Michael Jackson and his death because these trains will always be reminders of his death train on that day. .
.
Racing day tomorrow friends. Cloverdale racetrack that is. Live racing from the Meadowlands in the Great State of New Jersey that is what I am talking about. So, if you are popping into town and want to check things out you know where to find me. Post time is 1600 hrs local time.
.
Well, we certainly are in the territory now aren't we? The next year after 1969 is 1970 and that means I was twenty one years old when Michael Jackson and family was doing the following:

Raindrops, pretty ladies and other things....

.
.

.
.
Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Thursday June 25, 2009
.
.
It was kind of drizzly on the job yesterday. Well, maybe not drizzly exactly, but it was on and off showers anyway, sometimes heavy and sometimes not. It was much needed rain for the area that is for sure. And, better to get the rain out of the way before the weekend anyway. While I was discussing the weather with the receptionists that I encountered throughout the day not one of them criticized the rain drops; everybody agreed that the moisture was a welcome thing.
.
I meet a lot receptionists during the course of my employment you know. In fact, this is most likely the best part of my job right now, bumping into all of the ladies that is. There are a lot of great looking women out there let me tell you and on my job I get to meet a lot of them. I like joking with them or just engaging in conversations some time. You know, like taking little polls and getting their opinions on things. I remember one time, and I think I mentioned it before that most of these women were just lucky to have a job. I remember saying something about working on Mondays. I personally have problems with Mondays, you know the first day on the job after the weekend and how hard it is to get back into the grind. I think I mentioned this idea to numerous ladies on the front desk one day, and almost without exception they explained that they were happy to have a job, although some may have agreed with me on the general sentiment of the question.
.
Anyhow, just thought I would mention the ladies in passing since, as I say above, bumping into the girls while on the job makes my day a lot more fun and relaxing. Just one pretty face and a good conversation can take away a lot of pain generated from a bad road experience. So, I guess just a great big thank you for all of the ladies on the front lines.
.
I am thinking of registering for the new Golden Ears Bridge. If you register and get a transponder then the cost of going over the bridge is really cut down. It will be an automated system that involves some kind of a scan of your license plates as you go over the bridge. It is really a good bridge and saves a lot of time and hassle for the courier.I have not heard one bad thing about this bridge from anybody and that includes the idea of paying to use it. So, it looks like a real winner according to the majority of people.
.
Just a further reminder friends that Saturday is coming up again and that means harness racing. So, if you are popping into town don't be afraid to wander in and check things out. Post time is 16:00 local time for the racing in New Jersey.
.
I haven't moved on yet in the main part of my blog. I have a lot of ground to cover you know. I am just about to enter university in 1968 so I will have to say something about that of course. And, something that I have not done is to spend any real time at all explaining just what the carnival business is and how it affected me. And, then there are the philosophical themes that I am interested in as well. So, as you can see I have a lot of work to do over there, so I am not stuck for content and things to talk about. ...But, these songs from 1968 are not overly exciting me if you want the truth of the matter. I think it would be OK if I snuck a peek at 1969 and see if I can remember some of the songs. Hope you guys do not mind too much. I would have been mostly 20 years old in that year, meaning not a teenager anymore. God, it is kind of creepy thinking about being twenty again. It just seems so young compared to right now, almost like a baby.
.
Here is what I am talking about friends. The top song in 1969 is Aquarius by the Fifth Dimension. I do not like music like this as I consider it to be unhappy, not like the spunky love songs of the early sixties. Remember, in the early sixties even the sad songs were happy ones. Times have changed now and it is showing up in the music. Maybe you will like Aquarius and think it is a happy song, but it did nothing for me and my personality.

I've seen the movie before....

Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Wednesday June 24, 2009

.
Not much to report this morning friends. Typical stuff, back to work and on the road again...... I guess the world is still in one piece and the U.S. has not invaded Iran yet - you know saving another country like it normally does. That's quite a number they're pulling off isn't it? All the media attention because democracy is being undermined, I mean. Good thing I do not watch television otherwise I am sure I would be sick to death by now. But, I am getting some exposure anyway, even on some of the sites that I visit. Sure, Iran is a theocracy and all that, but is it really our business to come to their aid for something like that? Friends, I do not think so. Think about all of the dictatorships around the world that the U.S. has chummed up with and the leaders that they have toppled because they do not play ball with the U.S. capitalists. Saddam Hussein is only one example and the current leadership in Iran is just another one. Remember, dear friends Iran had to experience the same thing back in 1953 when a democratically elected government was side swiped and the Shah was put into power. Remember all that stuff? Well, dear friends that is why I do not pay attention to the U.S. media or the forces who are bringing you this debacle on television and elsewhere
. It is a movie we have seen before and I ain't watching it.
.
Here is a song from 1968 that, quite frankly, I do not remember. It was only when the instrumental portion of the song kicked in that it started to jog my memory a bit.

All sperm need our support....

.
.
.
.
Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Tuesday June 23, 2009
.
.
Well, friends, pictured above is a little sperm. Notice that the thing isn't even wiggling like it is supposed to? I guess it is just another failed sperm; it has no purpose and no future. It will not be able to hook up with any kind of egg whatsoever, because it is a cripple. This sperm is doomed and will not live to perform the job that it was designed to do.
.
Can you imagine what the life of a failed sperm must be like? That his destiny would not be fulfilled I mean? God, it must be just awful for him. I mean, he will never be able to hook up with some beautiful egg and reproduce and make another form just like himself. His mission will not be complete and nobody will ever remember him. He will just die and wither away and be no more.
.
Do you ever feel like a failed sperm? Well, I suppose I do sometimes. I mean if my destiny was not to be fulfilled and if I was handicapped in some way, I mean. That is the reason we are born isn't it? To meet up with some egg and reproduce? Well, that is the way things look to me even if they do not look that way to you. Why things like sperms and eggs are just part of our equipment that is all. And, it is sad really when you think that all sperm will not make it. They will fail in their mission and they will not do the job that they were created to do.
.
The thing about sperm of course is that there are so many of them that one single one will not even be missed. If this failed sperm is not up to the task, why there are many others who are. And, that is the way things are friends. No one will miss this failed sperm and his failed mission. Someone will hook up with an egg even if this one does not. And, that is the beauty of life isn't it? Why just think of all of those eggs that the female salmon pumps out in the stream just before she dies. They will all be fertilized by the male salmon who was successful at his job. But, even then not all of these eggs will survive - there is more risk ahead for the fertilized eggs. The ones that do make it will live a precarious life anyway and be constantly under the threat of death. Life is risky for these fertilized eggs as life is precarious for all of us who were born and live at the mercy of all threats imaginable..
.
Yes friends life is just one giant crap shoot when you think about it. Failed sperm and fertilized eggs that die anyway, it is all luck and chance and nothing more than that. Life is a risky business even when you get that far, to achieving life that is. And, that is why dear friends you should count your blessings. You and I are alive to talk about these things. We have achieved consciousness and we can communicate with one another. That little sperm above will not even get to meet an egg and produce something that will attain consciousness. He will fail in his mission;
.
Yet, you and I dear friend are the product of a successful sperm who met his egg and got the job done. So, I think we should all take our hats off to all of the sperm in the world who managed to succeed at what they were designed to do, namely hooking up with an egg and creating something just like themselves. Friends, the next time you see a sperm do not criticize it but wish it luck. Because there is every good chance in the world that the next sperm you see will be a failure like the one pictured above. Friends, the sperm of the world need all of the help and luck that the world can give them. Their job is not easy and it is our duty to help them out in any way that we can. I think creation and the future of man depends on our support in this critical area. ( PS if you click the sperm above, it will wiggle for you - you can give it life ).
.
Have a nice day and thanks for reading.
.
.I have to go backwards not forward friends when it comes to music. The earlier sixties were much more friendly when it comes to happy music. I hope you agree. Here is Al Martino singing a neat song.

No nibbles yet....

.
.
.
.
.
.
Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Monday June 22, 2009
.
.
Well, here we are friends, the weekend is over and it is time for another moody Monday. Are you having a moody Monday or are you out and about enjoying life? I suppose that explains the whole thing anyway if you know what I mean. How you feel is really just a state of mind anyhow. And, that really is the key to the success of life I think, trying to live a happy and productive life - well, as productive as you want it to be of course. I realize that productive is kind of a loaded word so I had better watch what I say.
.
" No nibbles yet...." that is my title and my area of concern this morning dear reader. The girl of my dreams has not visited my web site yet ( as far as I know that is ) and has not had a chance to consider my latest proposal of marriage to her. You can read my proposal here: Marriage Proposal Number 3 It is a real offer you know, as genuine and as bona fide as it gets. If she phoned me out of the blue could you just imagine how happy that would make me? I mean, I would be just dreaming about all of the details involved in getting ready for the marriage ceremonies and everything. It would be all just too much for me I suppose. But, it would be wonderful just the same. Can you actually imagine Carl Baydala being married to a real live girl? Well, I guess anything is possible and even this marriage scenario is a possibility I suppose. But, alas, it is the love gods who control these things, as they control all things of course. We can only hope and wait..and wait some more I suppose. I guess it is a really good thing that I am so patient. I learned my patience skills from fishing you know. Why, I can fish all day and love every minute of it. And, I don't even have to catch anything either. Just as long as I am out and about in nature then I am happy. Most likely the happiest person in the world if you want the truth. I love being with nature and the solitude of the whole thing. That is why I could probably wait a whole life time for this girl to respond to my offerings, because that is what I have been trained to do - and that is to wait for the right opportunity to come along. You know, I heard a little saying on the radio just the other day. It was about our former Prime Minister Elliot Trudeau. He said and I am quoting the radio station here. And, I think it was related to getting a job or something along those lines. But, I think it could apply to love as well. The saying was that getting a job was not a matter of luck, but of preparation and opportunity. So, I am ready for love and I have most definitely prepared myself for it - I am just waiting for my opportunity, with the girl of my dreams that is all.
.
Finally, I just want to say a few more words about the philosopher Ayn Rand. I spent the whole weekend with her actually, well not personally with her, but thinking about her and her philosophy. I watched her three videos over again and made some posts about her in various parts of my blog. I even got a few visitors on account of that. I would not say that I am a big time admirer of hers, I am just a sympathizer with some of her more prominent ideas, namely atheism and the fact that man is a selfish creature. I agree with these things. I like her ideas on love and the idea that it should be earned and that both parties should be happy, etc. , and that a successful marriage or anything concerning life for that matter should not overly partake of altruism. Altruism, used incorrectly is a bad approach for a human being to take. And, it makes sense when you think about it. No successful arrangement is based on the adherence to altruism alone. But, it is her views on individualism and her criticism of collectivism and socialism is where we part ways. Just the fact that the neocons and even Allan Greenspan himself admire her works is disconcerting to me. I am not a fan of the neocons and their wars and capitalism gone wild, so you should be able to figure out where I am coming from. If you do not know me by now then you never will I suppose. I have never read her two big novels, the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged and I am not planning on it. From what I have seen in her video interviews she is a very consistent and dogmatic personality. So, I think I have already been adequately exposed to her ideas and what they mean.
.

.
Ayn Rand
.
Well, let's listen to some music now that we have gotten the heavy lifting out of the way as it were.
.
I want to return to Sue Thompson and " Sad Movies " if I might since this really is my kind of music. I had this song, originally done in 1961 on my blog earlier, but the song was removed for some reason. Here is another rendition of it. I am only interested in the song not the video itself as you can appreciate of course.
.
Just a final note here friends. And, this is a later addition to this post by the way. If you watch the video below you will come to see what I am talking about how sad songs back in the sixties were actually happy songs, and that is why I like them. Look at the content in the video below and notice how sad and cruel it actually is. Well, friends, that is how much society has changed since the sixties. It is very different and it is not happy. We have come a long way but did we have to end up like this?

Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Sunday June 21, 2009
.
.
Well, Gladys lived until her 83rd birthday so that is a good thing. She is now working on her 84th and that is also a good thing. Made it to the track yesterday and I got half of a 300 dollar triactor so that was quite neat, except I still did not end up a winner, but things could have been a lot of worse so it always pays to look on the bright side of things as you are most likely aware.
.
I have been watching quite a few videos about the philosopher Ayn Rand lately, which I have already mentioned in these spaces. Now, when you watch these videos something pops out at you concerning the personality of Rand. It is her intellectualism of course and it is rather striking. She is direct and does not budge from her philosophy and her beliefs. And, she is very quick in responding to questions. No fuss and no muss.
.
She is an atheist, a believer in free enterprise or individualism, and she dislikes the misuse of altruism. She blames the philosopher Emmanuel Kant for many of our contemporary problems since he is the one who formulated the idea that it is a good thing to be moral and altruistic as it were. But, this practice of altruism by our society is a negative she feels because it breeds collectivism, socialism of ideas and institutions and hampers society by the way money is spent to lift people up. This is wrong approach to take she claims as those with gifted powers are neglected in the process. The only way a society is successful is because of its entrepreneurs and gifted people, so these are the people who should be supported and not those drawing on the resources of the rest of us. Taxation is just theft anyway. In fact, she says that the state and the economy should be separate, just as church and state are separate.
.
But, it is her views on love that I find the most interesting. And, these views are related to her ideas on altruism. People should not make the mistake of getting married out of altruism she claims. That would be foolish and even immoral she states. Why is this so? Because what kind of marriage would that be if you married someone out of pity or because you thought you had to help them? That would go against the wishes of man's inner nature which is basically selfish she says. And, I totally agree that man is selfish as I have stated many times on these pages and elsewhere. So, I totally agree with Rand on this issue of course.
.
She says that the currency of love is virtue. I suppose, without asking her what this really means, we would have to surmise that a good marriage would be one that involves something for each of the participants of a marriage, and having as the means of exchange to use her metaphor, something composed of virtue. If it has to be earned as she claims then each partner to a contract of marriage would have to be supplying something to that marriage to make it work. Why would you marry just anybody? There has to be a reason I think why you pick one person to marry as opposed to another one. So, that would be the element of self interest that I do not think we can escape. Each person is expecting something out of the relationship. Both, are most likely interested in the sexual component, but not necessarily I suppose. However, I think if a man is marrying a woman the relationship must have something to do with the sexual opposites, otherwise why would you marry someone from the opposite sex? But, then as we know, not everyone marries someone from the opposite sex so there must be more to it than that of course. But, even same sex partners must enjoy some kind of a sexual relationship I would think. So, I don't think we can ever completely abandon the importance of sex in a relationship. You may want to disagree of course.
.
At any rate, there there must be some roots for the attraction of two people, whatever these attractions are. There is a union and there is some kind of contract, written or unwritten on things concerning the expectations of each party to the marriage or the living together of two people; something is keeping them together. And, it better not be altruism or that relationship will fail according to Ayn Rand. So, I suspect that she is on to something here because I don't think a marriage would work if someone married someone else because society says that it is your duty to do so. If you are not happy in the relationship then neither will your spouse or partner. There will be something wrong and unhealthy about the relationship and that is why altruism will not work in marriage. So, virtue is the currency says Rand. I suppose if you believe what Rand is saying then this virtue would have to be a special kind of virtue, not just any old kind of virtue, and especially not an altruistic variety. I suppose this is her definition of love as she understands love. It would have to be a virtue possessed of self interest; giving because you love; but surely expecting something in return. Happiness for both parties should be the driving force I think ( another one of Rand's beliefs is the happiness of the individual ) behind any successful marriage. And, happiness is not going to come to either party unless it is earned. That is the message of Ayn Rand. So, it looks like there is a bit of work involved in this marriage business as well. How did I earn her love? Why the old fashioned way of course. Have a nice day friends and thanks for reading.
.
You might want to check out my latest marriage proposal ( Marriage Proposal Number 3 over on the main blog ) to see what kind of a virtuous person I am. And, you can read a related post of mine found on my series, the Bachelor Philosophers found here:

I think he did a great job. This is the song that I have as part
of my latest marriage proposal to the girl of my dreams. So, this
is an example of my selfishness and wanting to get something out
of marriage, which is of course, my happiness. Now, the only other
problem of course is: where is the girl's happiness going to come from?
Well, that is up to her now isn't it? No happiness - no marriage. And, no virtue of any variety whatsover.

Birthdays, birds, and McDonald's to the rescue....

.

.
Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is June 20, 2009
.
.
.
.
.
Today is Glady's Birthday so let's all wish her a Happy 83rd Birthday. Gladys is my mother in case you did not know. That was item number one.
.
Item number two is my car above. I am very proud of my car you know. It is a smart looking car and I am very happy that I bought it. I hope that I can stay in love with it for a long time. But, in the same breath I should tell you that one day I will sell it and I will not shed any tears over the incident. And, that is because this car is simply a material object in my life. It is ego booster and no more. But, I love it all the same. However, all good things must come to an end and this relationship will be no different. Cars are different than girls which I explained to you in a previous entry so you might want to read about that if you get the time to do so.
.
The third item on the agenda this morning was an attack by a bird upon my property and how the McDonald's Corporation came to the rescue. Confused? Well, do not be dear friends because I will now detail for you the connection. Yesterday morning at exactly 9:38 AM I was sitting in my work vehicle standing by and reading. The window on the driver's side was rolled all the way down and my left arm was laying flat in a resting position on the top of this door. Earlier on I had stopped in at McDonald's, as is my habit of course, and I purchased an Egg McMuffin and a coffee. I was still drinking my coffee while reading my philosophy book that I carry with me. Suddenly I noticed that some fresh excrement landed right beside where my arm was positioned on the door. It was a gooey yellow and white substance and was confined to a very small area next to my arm. It was not a direct hit upon my person. So, that was the good news of course. Now, luckily I have on hand a good supply of napkins from McDonald's. The Company is generous in many ways and this is just another example. I keep the ones that I do not use for extras in my unit. As you can appreciate there is always a need for napkins in a vehicle, for either wiping one's face and hands or simply wiping down portions of the unit to keep it clean. Friends, once again we to need to give praise to the McDonald's Corporation for helping me get through the day. I e-mailed one of my workmates and informed him of the incident as soon as it happened. Well, friends let me tell you what he said. Now, this is the same fellow who praised McDonald's when they were supplying free coffee for us. You may recall the entry concerning this topic. Anyhow, not only was McDonald's supplying us with free coffee and free newspapers, free bathrooms, and a free place to sit and relax, but they were doing more. They were supplying us with free napkins by which we could fight our enemies and their tactics. Friends, I do not think I can make it any plainer than this - McDonald's is on the side of the courier on all fronts. What a wonderful companion to have during the course of the day. They are always there for you when you need them, supplying the free things that one needs to get through his working day. So, here is another great big thank you from me to you McDonald's and keep up the good work.
.
Finally, friends, this is a racing day out at Cloverdale. Post time is 16:00 for the races in New Jersey. Hope to see you there if you are popping into town.

.
.
Well, there is the list for what it is dear friends. Now, I think you have to realize that predicting the future is really just wishful thinking. For me, that it is what it is anyway and it might even be a mugs game too. The reason I am posting this list for you now is because tomorrow is Glady's birthday. She will be 83 years old. ( Prediction number 4 ) So, that would be another prediction come true of course. Prediction number 9 is also being fulfilled because I have a marriage proposal in progress for Karen. Predictions 1 and 2 have also happened and they did not have to you know. Prediction number 5 is also being fulfilled as I am still working just part time. I am starting to get a little worried about Prediction number 6 however, as the track is not all that great this year. Sure, I am winning my share of triactors, but they are not big payoffs to date, but there is still a couple of months left in the meet so we will have to keep hoping. Prediction number 7 is a real test of course because Iran is being harassed once again through the media scrutiny of its election. That is the power of the U.S. media of course. I am not expecting big things out of the stock market, but it looks like my prediction has some merit in this regard as well. ( Prediction number 8 ). And, finally I am predicting that I will get married this year. Friends, I can guarantee that this will happen. It just might not be the kind of wedding that you would expect, but it will be a kind of a wedding of course. If Karen accepts my proposal that would be the best outcome, but I certainly am not going to hold my breath that she will take advantage of my current offer. I would be thrilled if she did of course. But, in the end it is the love gods who are totally in charge of these things anyway. We await their decision in this regard.
.
Anyhow, tomorrow is a racing day once again so don't be afraid to make an appearance if you are popping into town or whatever. Post time is 16:00 for the races in New Jersey.
.
I watched a couple more interviews with Ayn Rand and I really am not impressed with her at all you know. Her real is name is Alice Rosenbaum or something like that. She strikes me as a typical atheist, which is perfectly fine. I am an atheist so naturally I would be attracted to her beliefs in this regard. But, in listening to her I was actually not that impressed with her views on individualism and the negative effects of altruism ( her beliefs ) and the like. She seems to think that the philosopher Emmanuel Kant is the cause of all of our problems since his ideas of morality would involve helping out others just for the sake of helping others. Ayn Rand thinks this whole philosophy is bad and that is why America is doomed, because of altruism and the failure of society to provide for the needs of the gifted. She even states at one point that it is the conservatives who will actually destroy America and not the liberals. I think she is a very dangerous personality actually. And, she is being trotted out into the public view just as Iran was taking matter into its own hands. ( Carter presidency ) She demonizes the Arabs you know and thinks that the oil belongs to the U.S. because they invented the technology to get it out and also because of their contracts with the Arab states. So, that is why I think she is a dangerous figure to be highlighting at this time. Just my opinion of course and you should already know what my views are in this regard. Well, if you did not you should have an idea now. She is dangerous because she espousing the benefits of rugged individualism and that is fodder for the capitalists and the globalists. Allan Greenspan is one of her fans so I think that adds to my case quite profoundly. I hope you guys understand what I am talking about and that I am not wasting my time on this topic. You can watch and listen to Ayn Rand below in this interview with Tom Snyder. This is part two of a three part interview:

Smashed up trucks and Ayn Rand....

.
.

.
Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Thursday June 18, 2009
.
.
Good morning friends. I was going to mention Ayn Rand this morning since I accidentally came across her on You Tube. She is the famous philosopher you may recall who wrote the novels Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. She is noted for her rugged individualism as it relates to philosophy and just what the influence of the state should be in our lives, which is near zero according to her. She thinks that the state spends too much time on helping poor and disadvantaged people, whereas it should be helping the more gifted individuals instead. So, she is not big on socialism at all and she thinks that states are misdirected if they waste too much time trying to correct societal problems. By the way, she was born in Czarist Russia in 1905. She does not like Russia. I believe Allan Greenspan, the former Federal Reserve Bank chief, was one of her fans if I am not mistaken.
.
I have never seen the woman speak before and I can assure you that I was rather taken aback by her views. She is an atheist such as myself, but I did not know that she held such strong opinions regarding the weak in our society. I have included for you one segment of a five part interview that she did on the Phil Donohue show back in the late 1970's, it sounds lie the late 70's from the conversation. They mention President Carter and Iran quite a bit, so I am assuming that this is the time period involved. You can easily access the other segments if you are interested, but this segment below is concerned with her atheism. I am surprised that the audience was so kind to her actually, especially in religious America. I am sure there must have been lots of Christians in the audience, and if I am not mistaken, Phil himself is a Catholic..Another interesting item in these videos are her views on the Middle East states. She feels that the oil, or more accurately, the fruits of that oil, because of U.S. technology used to get it should belong to the United States. The topic came about because of nationalization talk by the oil producing states. The Arabs don't deserve it ( the oil ) since it has been in the ground for centuries and they did not do anything about it. So, in a way she is saying that the oil belongs to the U.S. Some in the audience appreciated this viewpoint. I am sure George Bush and all of the rest of the neocons would love her. I found some of her views somewhat harsh when I heard them. Again, the video below is the one focusing on her atheism.
.

.

Another item that I want to tell you about this morning is a dream that I just had. It was quite a powerful dream and it involved my new truck. I had taken it in for servicing and I remember acting somewhat arrogantly while I was waiting in the dealership. I have done that in the past and arrogance forms part of my behavior sometimes actually. But, this behavior has a way of getting back at you. I guess it relates to the old maxim: what goes around comes around or something similar to that idea.. Anyway, I remember that I was supposed to meet my friends at the racetrack, so I was worried that the truck would not be ready on time. This detail was not an important detail of the dream, however. But, I remember that I kept waiting and waiting and the truck was still not ready. Somebody from the dealership had taken it out on the road somewhere and that is why things were delayed and why I was not getting my truck back. I remember talking to various employees in the truck dealership and they would have been exposed to my personality and my concerns. Sure enough the call in later on that the truck and been in an accident so that means that things would be delayed and I would not make the racetrack on time. The thing about the dream is that nobody seemed overly concerned about me and my truck. Nobody cared if I got it back or some replacement vehicle or anything for that matter. They did not care. Maybe this was the payback for my behavior or that is how I thought about it anyway. They did not like me and that is why they were treating me like that. I remember saying that I was going to sue them and the girl who smashed up my truck. Not big time suing, but just two thousand or so because that would be the depreciation loss for me when it came time to sell the vehicle. I remember one time I had a pickup that was involved in an accident and when I traded it in they held this fact against me; a vehicle with a ' declaration ' of damage on it is harder to sell to a customer because people are naturally leery about vehicles involved in accidents. So, I wanted to recover the money that I knew that I would lose in the future. Anyway, nobody tried to help me by offering me a replacement vehicle or help in any way at all. They just all went about their business and nobody was overly concerned about me all the way up to the end of the dream

.

The weather started out poorly yesterday after some rain overnight, but then it turned out much better in the afternoon, so that was OK by me of course. Anyway, I have to start thinking about a song of the day for you. I wonder if there is anything left in 1968 that is worth listening to.

.

Here is a song that was played all of the time now that I recall. This is a live appearance so the record sound differently than this, but here it is anyway.

Are you a Golden Ears person....?

.
.
Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Wednesday June 17, 2009
.
.

.
Well, good morning friends and once again I am happy to report that I am still alive and well. Well, as well as can be expected for me if you know what I mean. Back to work today after four days off again. The weather is still holding up as far as I know. Kind of early for the sun actually. Took the unit for another spin yesterday and I found myself checking out our brand new bridge. It is called the Golden Ears Bridge and it connects the Port Kells area of Surrey/Langley with the other side of the Fraser River, namely Pitt Meadows. This bridge is meant to take off some pressure for those people who have to struggle to get home via the Lougheed Highway and who live in Pitt Meadows and the Maple Ridge Area. No doubt they will also knock out, or make redundant, the free Port Albion Ferry, which is situated on the east side of Maple Ridge.
.
As a courier I can immediately see the benefits of this bridge. I go to Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge all of the time from the Surrey and Langley areas so this will cut down a lot of time and save a lot of gas as well. So, even though it will be a toll bridge after an initial one month freebie period I think it will be worthwhile to pay the toll anyway. I think you simply save on gas right off the bat. Not only that there will be various methods of payment and an electronic and photo system will be able to take pictures of your license plate and you can just run a tab. And, this would be just another business expense anyway so all is not lost as you can see.
.
So, I decided to take the plunge yesterday and cruise over the new, temporary free bridge. It is a three lane affair both ways and feels kind of like the Mission Bridge which is located far to the east up the Fraser Valley. The thing you immediately notice about this bridge are the eagles hanging on the side of the bridge. This is a real novelty I think. I have never seen this kind of architecture on a bridge before. And, there is more than one of these birds as well. Take a look at the third picture from the top and you will be able to see one of the majestic birds hovering atop of one of the bridge pillars. A real nice personal touch indeed.
.
So, welcome to the new Golden Ears Bridge. I was going about 70 km per hour over the bridge when I took the snaps. The speed is varied, but it is mostly 80 km per hour. I did not think these pictures would turn out and that they would be blurred on account of the speed, but as you can see they are not.
.
.

.
So, let us hope that everyone gets to be a Golden Ears person and is able to experience this neat new bridge.
.
.
Still thinking about 1968
