On the differences between us and them....

Good Morning Friends,

Back to work for a couple more days and then I can relax again. Well, Canada Day is over and I am still in one piece so that is a good thing of course. I really believe that Canada is one of the best countries in the world you know and I think I was really fortunate to have been born here. Just look at the differences between us and our neighbours to the south for example. Sure, there are many similarities between us, but I think the differences are even greater. Like, we do not engage in continuous war for the sake of war is one of the biggest differences. Sure, Canada gets sucked into these ventures sometimes and we gain economically to some extent, but it does not affect us like it must affect the general population of the States. We did not have a draft during the Vietnam War in the sixties as just one example. I mean, the U.S. is really just a war economy now anyway and has hundreds of military bases scattered throughout the globe to protect its ' interests ' . And, the nation, increasingly, simply sells things to one another; it is a giant service economy and runs huge debts and deficits, this feature being attributable to globalization and concurrent job loss of course. Much of its huge debts are related to the financing of war, the constant wars that they engage in around the world to protect their hegemony. They even have something called the CIA or Central Intelligence Agency. This agency is just a secret arm of the government and serves the interests of the giant corporations that operate internationally. They have a history of making money in drugs and of toppling democratically elected governments, governments that do not play ball as relates to U.S. interests - the interests being the interests of the corporations of course.
.
Nobody attacked us on 9/11 so there is another difference for you. We really are a different breed of people than our friends to the south. But, as I am sure you have guessed already, it is not the little people who are different, it is simply the elites and the powerful who make things different between us, i.e. the corporations. Us simple folk are no different than our counterparts to the south. We have the same aspirations and goals for the future. We just want to live a happy life and buy things that make us feel good inside. So, in that sense we are a very identical kind of people. But, as I am attempting to show, the differences between us are manifested in how the country is run. It is the economy and who controls it that really makes us different. For example, here in Canada we have public health care. Why sometimes it is even free if you do not make enough money. So, I think that is a very big deal quite frankly. And, nobody in Canada loses their home because they cannot pay their medical bills. That is a great difference between us and the States. And, that to me explains in a nutshell the difference between our two cultures. Caring and sharing is a very important thing in my opinion. This is such a basic thing and it is so important. And, they cannot even get a public health care system going under a Democratically controlled Congress and one led by a Democratic president to boot. That dear friends should just about explain the whole thing for you. And, why as a Canadian do I worry about these kinds of things? Because I live right next door to the big country that is why. And, I communicate with people on the internet is another reason why. I have to listen to all of these complaints coming from Americans; they cannot change their government and they cannot stop the wars - they are powerless. And, nobody is helping them. And, why? Because the politicians do not work for them that is why. But, alas, I am sure you get the picture by now...but, one of the things that the Americans still do well is to operate good racetracks, like below. So, you have to give credit where credit is due. ....And, they still produce good pop music too. Like Beyonce right now, she is my favourite. Anyhow, reminder below:

P.S. don't forget racing on Saturday if you are popping into town. Post time is 16:00 hrs at the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey.

Here is a song that I remember was played all of the time in 1969.
I do not mind this song ( but it certainly would not have been my favourite ) and it is not as sad as some of the others. It would have been listenable for me...to a point.
