God is like water....

Good Morning Friends,
.
.
today is Friday July 3, 2009
.
.
I was having a drink of water this morning and I couldn't help thinking just how important this substance is. It is the most important thing according to the early Greek philosopher Thales ( circa 625 BC ). I mean, when you think about it, you simply cannot live without it. We drink it to survive and we water our plants with it. Why, we even wash our cars with it, that is how important this thing is.
.
And water comes in many forms as well, like liquid, solid, and gas. So, not only is it important, but it is pretty clever as well. I mean, if we think of water as having human characteristics, that is. And, that is the business of anthropomorphism of course. Anyhow, that is what man does, he gives human features to his physical partners in the universe. And, what is wrong with that anyway? Well, nothing actually and man has been doing this kind of thing for a very long time. It is the basis for him forming his ideas about gods and his philosophy. It is just what man does to get some kind of meaning out of life.
.
Anyhow, back to water. I was trying to develop a theory a while back on the existence of God, and I was using water as part of my case. My idea was that since water was so versatile in its properties, i.e. that it could transform itself into different forms, then maybe this feature of the substance water could help us to understand the very nature of God. By this I mean we could determine whether or not there is in fact a God or is there is not a God.
.
Now the only God that we know right now is the idea of God. There is no physical God as far as we know because nobody has ever experienced this physical God, only the idea of God. So, in a strict sense, God does not exist. But, yet in another sense He does exist, and that existence can only be confined to the territory of the idea.
.
Part of my theory is that an idea is a thing, and in fact, a physical thing. I know this might be a little hard to swallow, but just think about it for a moment. Now, as regards to water, this is something that we can feel as we consume it, we can in fact see it as well. We can pour it into a cup and we can even ice skate on it. So, even as it is changing forms we can still see it and use it for different purposes. There is even something called water vapour, it is just water in a different form of course. So, essentially water is that thing which changes its form in response to heat and cold. That is all water is. It changes as a function of its relationship to other things in the world, most notably, heat and cold. So, water is not just an idea as we understand what an idea is, but is also something that is quite physical as well; we can see it and touch it; we really do know that it exists. But, even though we cannot see it sometimes we also know that it exists. And, that is the exact same thing with God. He is just an idea that we think exists even though we cannot see him or touch him. But He does exist. As an idea He does exist.
.
Is an idea a physical thing? Friends, this is the great leap of faith that we have to perform if we are going to accept the notion of a God. You have to think of God as just another form of water. He is just the kind of water that you cannot see, but yet you know that He does exist. Friends, we are now in the territory of the great debate between the materialist and the idealist philosophers. These kinds of philosophers have been adversaries all throughout the history of man. And, one of them accepts the notion of God and the other does not.
.
So, what I am attempting to do here friends is to get you thinking about the idea that an idea itself is actually a form of matter, and I am using the properties of water to try and prove my case for you. Think of the idea of God as something that exists. This very idea exists in your mind right now. It is real and you can feel it. Yes, you can sense the idea, for if you could not you would not be able to experience the idea. That means that idea is sensation itself, and therefore an extension of matter and a physical thing. It can be none other than that I think you would agree. Idea is simply another manifestation of your consciousness and its ability to bring reality to you. Your consciousness is talking to you and you are listening and you are reacting. And, the means of communication between you and your consciousness is the Idea. It is the only thing you know. And, if it was not real and Physical then it could not exist. That dear friends is why God exists. Have a nice day.
.
Whoops. Almost forgot. Just another further reminder dear friends that it is a racing day tomorrow. So, if you are popping into town and want to go you know where the action is. Post time in New Jersey is 16:00 hrs local time. See you there if you are coming.

Still hanging around in the 1969 time zone. Here is a song by BJ Thomas. I remember now that I really liked the music by BJ.
