The above two pictures are located in the Whalley area of Surrey. This is usually where I start my day off as a courier. You will notice the dominant structure of the Central City tower in the background of course. I guess this is kind of like the Eiffel Tower of Whalley for lack of a better explanation.

The above picture is a McDonald's in Richmond right by the Knight Street Bridge. The other side of the building is a little smarter looking than this view. This is looking towards the west. Notice the airplane in the sky. It is headed toward the airport which is located on Sea Island. I lived on Sea Island for a bit when I was a child living in Richmond. Richmond is where I grew up and that was mostly in the fishing village of Steveston which is located in the southwestern part of Richmond. This particular McDonald's is where I ended my day and where I purchased a coffee and a burger. Sometimes I have a coffee and a muffin instead. Now that is a real bargain for $1.46 let me tell you. Today is my last day at work and then I get to enjoy a bunch of days off in a row again. Remember, I am just a part-timer now, sort of a tourist if you know what I mean.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is a racing day at Cloverdale. So, if you guys are popping into town from out of town and want to go you know how to get in touch with me. Today is Thursday April 16, 2009

Here are just a few snaps from work yesterday. All of these pictures are in a place called Maple Ridge, B.C., which is a municipality just east of Vancouver. This community is situated on the north side of the Fraser Fraser.
.
As you can see it was another stellar day and I thoroughly enjoyed being out and about. Sometimes I think of my courier job as being on a perpetual vacation. That is how pleasant it is sometimes.

This particular area of Maple Ridge housed some riding stables and I even noticed a couple of girls riding horses on the road as I was travelling through the area.



And, naturally at the end of all of my courier days I manage to find a McDonald's and grab a snack before I make my way home from wherever it is that I happen to finish working. This snap to the left is right in downtown Maple Ridge on Lougheed Highway.

After resting at McDonald's I made my way toward the east of town and grabbed a ferry that would take me back home. I had to wait the for more than half an hour in a line up. The ferry is free and runs back and forth between Fort Langley and Maple Ridge.

The above picture was taken last August during my friend's 34th Wedding Anniversary. You will notice that I am wearing my ' Truckin For Jesus ' T shirt. Now, I am not a Christian so I don't want to be giving out any false impressions here. I just thought I would clear that up in case you were wondering that is all. I wouldn't describe myself as being very religious in the religious sense, but I certainly am not against those who practice religion. I think religion is just a particular feature of mankind anyway. It is just one of the things that he does that is all. But, once again I just thought I would clear up this small detail for you.

I went for a drive yesterday in my sports car since it was so nice out. It was around 3 o'clock in the afternoon actually. It was a stellar day so I could not help myself. It was bright and sunny, one of those glad to be alive kind of days. I ended up driving down to White Rock which is located in the south part of Surrey where I live. I took my camera with me, fully expecting to take a snap for you except I could not get a good shot from where I was driving. I suppose I could have tried a little harder but as you can see I did not. You will just have to take my word for it: it was a fantastic day and White Rock and the ocean looked gorgeous. I knew it was a fantastic day because I was not the only person cruising about with the top down on his unit. The convertibles were out in full force like they usually are on these kinds of days. Actually, there seem to be a lot of convertibles and sports cars on Vancouver's roads these days so maybe we really are a large city after all. It is good to know that we are finally growing up and taking advantage of everything that life has to offer. And, one of those is being able to experience nature in the way that it was intended to be experienced - to be part of it. And, I think that is what owning a sports car is all about actually. Anyway, I have to go back to work today and drive my pickup truck so how do you like them apples? By the way I like my pickup truck too so don't get me wrong. I would look pretty stupid delivering letters in a sports car now wouldn't I?

This is my last day off and then back to work tomorrow. I notice that the sun is poking through the blinds in the window. It is just before 9 o'clock in the morning. That is always a good sign now isn't it - that I am going to get to live for another day, that is. Life is sure great if you want my opinion on the matter. When everything is going well that is. Remember, things are not going well for some of us so I think we should bear these things in mind. I think we should all be thankful that we are going to be allowed to live for yet another day. God, I should have been a priest or something eh? Do you think I am inspiring? Well, probably not. I believe I am just lucky to be alive and I hope you guys are as well.

The above photo is the ' VanCity ' building. That is what we call it in the courier business anyway. Its real name is ' Central City '. I go into that building all of the time when I am working in the Whalley area of Surrey here. In fact, I do not live too far away from this structure. It is a fine edifice indeed and houses many government workers and university students as well. Whalley is changing its face and is becoming a somewhat better place to live. The area still has lots of problems such as homeless people and the like. These people are part of the environment and they are everywhere on the streets. Maybe it is the proximity to the skytrain that is behind some of our problems as well. Well, that is what some people say anyhow; that Vancouver is dropping its undesirables on us out here in Surrey. Oh well, it is just part of the character of the neighbourhood I suppose. Sooner or later things will get better and hopefully this social problem will correct itself. In the meantime, the Whalley area is improving and when things are going well during the day it is a perfectly good place in which to live and to do business. The Whalley district in fact is loaded with shops and services and is becoming quite centrally located. Surrey City Hall is even going to be building a new structure in the area. And, we all are well-served of course by the Skytrain which runs right through the heart of our community. It is very pleasant living here on a beautiful sunny day. So, all in all this is a great place to live and I am happy that I live here. Have a nice day and talk to you all later.

So, how are you all doing today anyhow? I hope everyone is fine and enjoying the holidays, the Easter holidays, that is. Not all of us are Christians of course, but that does not mean that we cannot participate in the holidays of the Christians. We have been doing it all of our lives, so why stop now, eh? Well, you know what I mean I suspect. Jesus was undoubtedly a good man, a fine man and a good philosopher to boot. Just as Rene Descartes, pictured above was as well. Remember his famous saying, Cogito Ergo Sum: " I think, therefore I am. " And, both Rene and Jesus of course were fine upstanding bachelors such as myself. It is a good feeling to be in such fine company as these two gentlemen. It makes my life all the more worth living let me assure you. And, if these two gentlemen made it through life and on to the next then I can as well. Now, Rene was a dedicated Catholic of course and Christ was, well, he would become a ' Christian ' when all was said and done. And, what of Carl Baydala and his gift to society? Well, that remains to be seen of course. The future is always in front of us and never behind. That is the beauty of the future, it is always in front and something to look forward to. A fine thing this future business don't you think?
